About This Place

Sun Nong Dan, nestled in the heart of Koreatown at 3470 W 6th St #7, Los Angeles, stands as a beacon for authentic Korean beef soups and hearty traditional dishes. This Korean restaurant is celebrated for its deeply flavorful, soul-warming offerings, drawing locals and visitors alike who crave rich broths and tender, slow-cooked meats.

The true star of the menu is undeniably the variety of Sulung Tang (ox bone soups) and beef plates, each meticulously prepared to showcase the complex, robust flavors Korean cuisine is known for. Whether you choose the Yang Ji Sulung Tang Beef Soup with its clean, fat-removed broth or indulge in the Seok Uh Sulung Tang featuring an assortment of meats, there’s a profound depth in each bowl that soothes and satisfies. For those seeking something more indulgent, the Kko Ri Gom Tang Ox Tail Soup or the Galbi Tang Beef Short Rib Soup offer a luscious, velvety experience where the meat almost melts away with each bite.

The beef plates are equally impressive — from the succulent Do Ga Ni Soo Yook Ox Knee Plate to the generous and diverse Mo Deum Soo Yook, which combines fat-removed beef, brisket, knee, ox tail, and cheek meat. These plates invite diners to explore a spectrum of textures and rich, savory flavors that linger memorably on the palate.

Accompanying these main dishes are classic Korean banchans (side dishes), famed for their freshness and balanced flavors, elevating every meal with subtle contrasts — from tangy kimchi to crisp, marinated vegetables. Diners often praise the perfectly cooked beef and the authenticity in every bite, as highlighted by returning customers. Tram from San Diego raved about the “galbi jim” being deeply flavorful with generous portions, and Sophy emphatically recommends the “best and most authentic Sulung Tang” in LA, noting not just the food, but the warm and friendly service that makes Sun Nong Dan a standout experience.

The atmosphere in this cozy Koreatown spot complements the menu beautifully. It feels intimate yet welcoming, an ideal setting for a comforting lunch or an enjoyable date night, as Mi-Ri El Khoury fondly recalls being surprised with a special evening visit and leaving with leftover soup to savor later. The restaurant maintains impeccable cleanliness and attentive hospitality, ensuring every guest feels right at home.

To complement the hearty meals, Sun Nong Dan offers traditional Korean beverages like Milkis and Banana Milk, providing a refreshing, nostalgic finish to the savory feast. For those concerned about parking, be prepared for limited street spots, but the convenient valet service helps make the visit seamless.

In essence, Sun Nong Dan is not just a restaurant — it’s a culinary destination that honors Korean heritage through its masterful preparation of beef soups and plates. The richly layered flavors, generous portions, and heartfelt service combine to create an authentic dining experience that invites you back time and again to warm your soul and delight your senses.

We were visiting from SD and stopped in here for lunch. The galbi jim was so flavorful and the portion was very generous. All the banchans were on point- will definitely be back again!

Very unique korean dish. We came from Vancouver and definitely don't have this unique dish. Cheesy delicious and full of flavors. The beef was perfectly cooked. Side dishes were yummy!

My hubby surprised me, got us a babysitter and brought me here for our date night and the food was really tasty <3 The portions were generous (we had to-go cups for sure!) and the hospitality was helpful and on point! We came on a Wednesday night and there was no street parking and we ended up using the valet service.

This was my first time visiting the Sun Nong Dan location in Koreatown—I’ve always gone to the Rowland Heights store before. This location is smaller, but the beef soup was just as flavorful, and the beef itself was tender and delicious. That said, I personally find the side dishes at the Rowland Heights location to be more flavorful. The restaurant was very clean, and the staff provided excellent service. They even helped us pack up our leftovers, which I really appreciated—especially since most restaurants nowadays just hand you the containers. That extra touch of service definitely made a positive impression!

Absolutely amazing! The galbi jjim here is rich, tender, and bursting with flavor — the perfect comfort food. The portions are huge, easily enough for sharing, and the meat literally falls off the bone. Service was quick and friendly, even during busy hours. I’d come back in a heartbeat!

Service here is fantastic! We got lucky and got seated very quickly at the last table that was available for 2. The Koh Galbi Jjim is amazing. We chose this one since it has the oxtail included. This is a smaller restaurant but it is quite efficient with prepping the food and getting everything cleaned up quickly. 5 stars!

absolutely delicious! Their beef soup is rich and flavorful, and the meat is incredibly tender. The side dishes are tasty and plentiful, adding to the overall experience. I highly recommend trying their beef bone soup—it’s hearty, comforting, and one of the best Korean meals I’ve ever had. Definitely worth a visit!
